And then there was the Thirteen Artist Awards. Like a beacon at the end of a long struggle I find myself thinking of this award that had for a time been ruling and lurking the corners of the careers of the Filipino artists. Young and old alike had been ruled by the prestige held like an illusion at the end of a stick. An academic award that benevolent gods in the arts bestow on a critically inclined individual who happens to hold a brush or an insipid thought or two. Cornerstones.
